DANUBE IN CANDLELIGHT BY STEPHANIE BURKHART REVIEW+ GIVEAWAY

Danube in Candlelight

by Stephanie Burkhart

BLURB:

Morgan Duma has always known she's different. Her eyes have unusual gold rings around her irises, a trait she's inherited from her father. She's faster and stronger than most. Her endurance and stamina allow her to complete tasks in a quick and efficient fashion. Since she was a little girl, she knew there was only one man for her -- Adam Varga.

Morgan learned to dance in Adam's arms. They grew up playing the piano together. Adam's calm, soothing presence was the perfect compliment to her restless soul. Not only that, he shared her differences down to his feral eyes.

Enter Zoltan Kristos, Hungary's Minister of Reconstruction. He shares those same golden eyes that Morgan possesses. After Zoltan carries her mother out of a blazing fire, Morgan's life takes a turn she doesn't expect. She discovers the reasons for her differences, and questions her very identity. Is Adam strong enough to be the man she needs him to be?

EXCERPTS :

Morgan straightened her shoulders and withdrew from Adam's strong arms. She couldn't deny she liked being held by him, but her mind was too full of sorrow.

Instead, she cupped his cheek. "Thank you."

He smiled and offered her a handkerchief. She dried her eyes.

"I'll start a fire," he said.

"No. I don't want one. Not tonight."

Adam placed his hands over hers. "All right, no fire tonight, but you don't have to be

afraid of it. A fire in a fireplace is controlled. Tame."

She nodded. "I know. I just don't want one today."

He softly stroked her jaw with his thumb, and she found the gesture incredibly calming.

"Not today, but soon." "Soon," she said.

"Do you want me to steep your tea?" His voice was gentle.

"No, I'll do it."

"Did you want to play?" he asked.

She leaned over the table and prepared her tea. "I did, but my heart isn't in it now." "Do you want me to play?"

"All right."

Adam's mother was a talented concert pianist. They'd grown up taking lessons together.

"Do you have a preference?"

"No."

Adam sat on the bench and flexed his fingers. Morgan sipped her tea. The subtle opening

to the Sonata Pathetique soon filled the room. Morgan rested her head against the back of the couch, closed her eyes, and allowed herself to feel the music. Her soul settled and calmed. The tension drained from her limbs. Adam played for the longest time. Morgan finished her drink, then lay on the couch, hope threading through her limbs. She couldn't dwell on the negative. Her mother was still alive, thank God, and she was strong. Morgan had to believe she would make it through this.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Danube in Candlelight- Budapest Moon Book Three by Stephanie Burkhart is a 2013 Desert Breeze publishing release. I was provided a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

In this third installment of the Budapest Moon series, it is now in the early 1920's and we see the children of the Duma and Varga family as adults. Morgan Duma and Adam Varga grew up together but now as they are grown their feelings have evolved.
Before those feelings can be examined fully, Morgan's mother, Kate goes through a horrible experience which opens a door long closed within the family. Morgan and Adam will finally learn the truth about their fathers and why they have peculiar eyes. Also, another family arrives who also have the unique eyes and rumor has it they kill while in wolf form, something Duma and Varga do not. To add to that, Zoltan is attracted to Morgan also, putting her in potential danger.
I have enjoyed this family saga beginning with Matthius and Kate and moving forward through time to see how things will go their children. It is only fitting that Morgan and Adam have forged a strong bond. Things will not go as smoothly for the couple as one might think. Adam is in love with Morgan, but has doubts about her feelings for him, thinking perhaps it is just her wolf lineage and what basically amounted to hormones causing her to respond to him physically. His hesitation will have long reaching consequences. The other thread of this story deals with the changes that will take place for Kate after she suffers horrible injuries. The Kristos' family and their lack of control over their impulses also lead to a disruption in the Duma and Varga family. The Kristos' could however, learn things that could help them gain control over their shifter kill urges, but this remains to be seen... possibly in future installments.
This is another solid chapter in the series. I do recommend reading these in order to gain the most understandings of the family and the issues they faced that brought them up to this point and how these new developments will jar them out of their comfortable lives. If you enjoy shifter romance with a historical setting or if you like Gothic toned novels you should check into this series. Overall this one is 4 stars.
