The Broslin Bride by Dana Marton ( Broslin series # 5) is a 2014 publication. I was provided a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This addition to the series has lighter tone that previous novels in the series. Luanne Mayfair has had a few hard knocks in life but things are about to really get sticky. With her mother's death Luanne became responsible for her four year old twin siblings which meant dropping out of school and working two jobs to make ends meet. One of those jobs is as a maid cleaning motel rooms and working for the sleazy manager, Earl. When Earl is killed in a hit and run all the evidence points to Luanne.
Chase Merritt is the detective working the case and he and Luanne share a past. It's embarrassing to both of them and Chase could harbor a grudge but he can't seem to stay mad at Luanne. He just can't imagine Luanne running someone down in cold blood, so he is determined to find out what happened to Earl and frankly there is no shortage of suspects.
I really enjoyed this installment in the Broslin series. Luanne has a wonderful outlook no matter how bad things get. She seldom dwells on the negative and is always thinking of others despite her dire circumstances. Although, being a murder suspect is the about the worst thing imaginable, this situation brings Luanne and Chase back together and also introduces Luanne and her siblings to family she never really knew. Chase is a really good guy and I liked that he didn't let the past get in the way of the future. He is really good at this job, and heaven knows we could use more guys like Chase in real life so the real bad guys are caught and innocent people aren't sent to prison.
That's the good news, but the there is plenty of bad news coming and you will never seen this one coming! So, while this story is not all that dark it is still pretty twisted. The suspense element is still strong despite the lighter tone. Great dialogue with a little heart tugging in places makes this a well rounded novel, easy to read, and well worth your time. 4 stars
